15 Summer Festivals the Kids Will Love Too
Finally, the sun’s out! What better way to celebrate than with a whole weekend of play, dance and eating outdoors at one of this summer’s family-friendly festivals across the UK. Here are 15 festivals designed for both kids and big kids to enjoy:
Latitude Festival 18-21 July 2019 - SUFFOLK
This award-winning festival has activities for kids of all ages including pizza making, pond dipping, star gazing, an Enchanted Garden and the teens dedicated ‘Betweeners’ area. Acts include George Ezra, Stereophonics and Lana del Ray.
Deer Shed 26-28 July 2019 - YORKSHIRE
Music, spoken word, theatre, workshops and lots of under-5s activities make this a really engaging family fest started by a group of music loving parents who totally get it! Acts include Ezra Furman, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Anna Calvi. Plus, comedy acts like Reginald D. Hunter and Nina Conti.
Camp Bestival 25-28 July - DORSET
This has got to be on the most recognised family festivals here in the UK! A wonderland for kids and grown-ups alike. Expect bouncy castles, fair grounds, face painting, sandpits, go-carts, not to mention the Breastival Mother and Baby chill out spot for new mums! Amazing. Kids shows are set to include: Mr Tumble, Mister Maker & Big Fish Little Fish. Grown-up entertainment will include Nile Rogers + Chic, Jess Glynne and The Human League.
Port Eliot Festival 25-28 July 2019 - CORNWALL
This chic festival is known as a haven for adventure with some big name in children’s literature coming along to talk and a dedicated children’s area. It promises fascinating performances and interactive theatre as well as spots for wild swimming!
CarFest North Festival 26 – 28 July 2019 - CHESHIRE
CarFest South Festival 23 – 25 August 2019 - HAMPSHIRE
Chris Even presents 2 separate family festivals bringing together music, cars, family fun and good in aid of UK children’s charities. Acts include Jools Holland, The Jacksons and The Human League while family entertainment includes a kids theatre, car-nival, farm Olympics and the chance to step back in time with vintage tea rooms and sweet shops.
Standon Caling 25-28 July 2019 - HERTFORDSHIRE
Family favourites make a line-up kids will be excited with the Horrible Histories and Andy & the Odd Socks performing! There’s lots of adults too including Brian Ferry and Paloma Faith.
The Great Wonderfest 1-4 Aug 2019 - ISLE OF WIGHT
For something new and child centered, take a look at the family festival from kids TV presenters Dick & Dom. The Great Wonderfest will include an interactive Peppa Pig show, dance workshops from Flawless and daily performances from the TV duo Dick & Dom themselves. Plus, the Isle of Wight is a lovely getaway spot for a summer break so why not make a trip of it.
Boomtown 7-11 August 2019 - HAMPSHIRE
This is known as one of the coolest kid-friendly festivals out there. With its dedicated Kidztown with Sandcastle stage hosting child-loved acts like Junior Jungle, Big Fish Little Fish and FUNDMC! Get ready to rave together with your little ones this summer.
Green Man Festival 15-18 August 2019 - WALES
Set in the scenery of the Brecon Beacons this festival is perfect if you want to surround yourself with greenery. There’s a ‘Little Folk’ area for festival magic for those under 12s and this year it’s going to have a Lost City of Atlantis theme where kids can go wild.
Big Feastival 23-25 August 2019 - COTSWOLD
This is another absolute gem of a family festival! Founded by Blur star Alex James and held on his farm in Kingham, it’s a full-on family FEAST of fun and food. This year’s line-up includes Elbow, Jess Glynne, Duke and Lewis Capaldi. Children’s favourites to look out for include Justin Fletcher (Aka Mr Tumble), Peppa Pig Summer Festival experience and characters from PJ Masks and Paw Patrol. Free day tickets are available for kids under 12.
Curious Arts Festival 23-26 August 2019 - EAST SUSSEX
A beautiful arts and music festival held on Pippingford Park in East Sussex (was previously held at Pylewell Park). Expect children’s poetry and film workshops, cartoons and bedtime stories - plus lots of other child-led activities! Something a bit different this summer for those who appreciate the arts.
Kendal Calling 25-28 July 2019 - LAKE DISTRICT
A happy-go-lucky festival with a friendly atmosphere for revelers of all ages. There’s a real ale festival for the grown-ups while little ones can be entertained in the Kids Calling area. There’s also a family-friendly cinema! This year’s line-up includes: Courteeners, Doves, Manic Street Preachers, and Nile Rogers.
Wilderness Festival 1-4 August 2019 - OXFORDSHIRE
Expect a real retreat into the countryside so you and the kids can get wild! The children’s’ activities include woodland walks to craft workshops, and there are a team of onsite nannies available too. Acts include Robyn, Bombay Bicycle Club and Groove Armada.
Shambala 22-25 August 2019 - NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
This is a really diverse festival in a secret location! This one has a small musical line-up but so much more to engage the whole family. Playtopia is the place for the kids with activities running all weekend including and known as one of the best on the festival scene. They can get lost in a woodland playground, enjoy the Toddler Inn or get creative with screen printing and junk modelling to name a couple of activities.
