Outdoor Kids Party Ideas for Fun in the Fresh Air
We're Little Hotdog Watson, and we make cool, fun hats for kids. We're talking about some great ways to have fun outdoors for a birthday party!
Party season? While there are some staples to many kids birthday parties, such as a caterpillar cake of various names, you can make your little ones party special to them. What better than to make use of the good weather (if you're lucky), and get outside for some birthday fun.
It's free, it's fun, and it'll make for a memorable alfresco birthday or end of term party. Here are 8 outdoor kids party ideas you may not have thought of!
Family sports day
Don’t leave all the competitive fun to the school sports field, let the whole family get involved with a family sports day for kids, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents and friends! You can pull out all the old classics like the egg and spoon race, dressing up race and three-legged race or make up your own obstacle courses and carnival games.
Get Treasure Hunting
Help them burn off energy and get them engaged with nature with an outdoor scavenger hunt. Set up a trail of clues to find around the garden or park and lead the party crowd to a prize. You could then extend the outdoor fun by choosing an activity or toy they can set up and play with immediately to continue with in the fresh air.
Garden nerf wars
Big kids will love this one. All you need is a large outdoor space and nerf guns or similar - and let the battle commence. Get ready to dodge in what will prove to be quite a workout.
Big splash birthday
One of the best things about summer as a child? All the water fun to be had! Paddling pools, seaside trips, sprinkle runs... How about turning their next birthday party in a splashing fest with loads of water activities to choose from.

Messy play day
Let their creativity flow without having to stop and worry about the mess, by setting up a messy play day in the garden or at your local park. Chuck down some tarpaulins or keep to natural ingredients which won’t impact the lawn, and set up invitations to paint, build, make potions and get messy with no prescribed outcomes.

Mini golf madness
Work together with the party child and create your own mini golf circuit for friends and family. You can use a set to get you started and then add your own fun obstacles made from cardboard or toys.
Give them the tools and then challenge your party goers to create their own epic dens! Depending on their age, things you could provide include: cardboard boxes, sheets, blankets, pegs, tape, string, chairs, cushions, and bamboo poles. When they’re done set up a drink and snack station they can help themselves to and take into their creations for an extra cosy treat.
Make it Colourful
You may have noticed we love bold colours here! So, bonus points for any summer party that brings out the colour – its so great for lifting the spirits. You can add colour in loads of different ways from details in the décor to choosing a colourful dress code. Little Hotdog Watson hats compulsory, perhaps?

Little Hotdog Watson was born in 2016. The summer and winter hats for kids and adults, jam-packed with innovative protective technology have gone on to win awards, grace the pages of magazines, like Vogue, Grazia, Independent, Mother and Baby and celebrities alike.
